An Aftertime Novel
What would you do if the world as you know it ceased to exist? How would you cope if merely stepping outside your house could be a death sentence? How far would you go to protect what you hold dear? Would you kill to survive? Would you sacrifice yourself to protect those you love most?
Cass Dollar and the other residents of New Eden are living that hellish existence. Beaters, creatures that were once human but are now soulless flesh-eaters, roam the world, hunting humans as prey. Cass and the other New Edenites are trapped on an island, forced to subsist on a plant called kaysev to survive, and fearing for their lives should the Beaters ever make it across the river to their sanctuary.
Cass finds herself falling into two addictions: kaysev wine and stolen moments with Dor, one of the other survivors and one of New Eden’s strongest protectors. She knows she should be careful, that she needs to take care and stay strong for her daughter. She just can’t seem to resist.
A threat from the Beaters forces the New Edenites to abandon their home and try to find sanctuary at one of the nearby shelters. As they trek across the landscape, Cass and the others learn what truly matters and just how far they will go to defend what matters.
Sophie Littlefield puts a new spin on the zombie apocalypse genre with Horizon. Not just another zombie book, Horizon deals with the aftermath and how desperately things change. How fragile existence really is becomes startlingly clear in this novel. Heart-breaking, startling, and refreshing in its simplicity, Horizon is truly a top-notch look at the end of the world as we know it.
