Suddenly One Summer (Angel's Bay)
By Barbara Freethy
Angel’s Bay is the setting for this delightful romantic suspense where Jenna Davies has settled along with her seven-year-old daughter, Lexie. She is hiding a desperate secret and tries to stay apart from the other residents. But Angel’s Bay is a town that takes everyone to their bosom, and before long Jenna and Lexie are enveloped by the townspeople. Lexie makes friends quickly and starts to feel safe and settled but Jenna is fearful of letting her guard down.
One evening, she and Lexie are at the dock and see a young woman jump into the choppy water, Jenna doesn’t think twice before going to her rescue. Unbeknownst to her, journalist Reid Tanner is in town to write a story about angels that have allegedly been seen by the cliffs and is witness Jenna’s unselfish rescue. He takes an interest in her, but soon realizes Jenna is hiding something—and the true investigative reporter that he is knows he will have to get to the bottom of it.
Jenna soon finds there was a reason she was sent to Angel’s Bay—a reason that ties in with her ancestry, and knows that is why both she and Lexie feel so at home there. Wanting to make this her permanent home, she knows she has to be careful and not let anyone get to close. That is easier said than done as she and Reid find themselves attracted to each other. He manages to draw her story out and is determined to help in any way he can even when Jenna and Lexie are in put in mortal danger.
Ms. Freethy has written a suspenseful and captivating story, weaving in human frailty along with true compassion, making every page a delight.
