Highland Outlaw: A Novel
By Monica McCarty
As with the first book in this trilogy HIGHLAND WARRIOR, Monica McCarty delivers a strong historical filled tale with believable characters in HIGHLAND OUTLAW. Her meticulously researched setting is the background for an unusual story, in which the reader finds herself rooting for the "villain" Patrick MacGregor. As the reader soon discovers, it is Patrick’s brother who is the true villain.
Patrick MacGregor is an outlaw. His family has been declared outcast by the king, and now they must survive in the highland wilderness, hunted down by Campbells and all others who follow the king. Patrick has hatched a most cunning plan: trick Elizabeth Campbell, now heiress to his own lands, into marrying him. Once she becomes his wife, Patrick will have regained family lands stolen from him by Campbell perfidy. He thinks that he will merely use the Campbell lass he never counted on falling in love with her.
Elizabeth Campbell is another headstrong Highland woman. And she has become resigned to never marrying: three bethrothals have fallen through, and she’s sure no man will ever want her. Then she meets Patrick, a handsome, strapping guardsman who pays court to her. She soon finds herself enamored of him, even though his lowly station will cause trouble if they web. Little does she know the trouble his station will really cause!
HIGHLAND OUTLAW is yet another wonderful Scottish historical from Monica McCarty. Her amazing, flawed characters drive the complex story.
