Product Description:

Mystery novelist Sabrina Tate and her cat, Hitchcock, set out to catch a conniving killer in the next Bad Luck Cat mystery from the author of The Black Cat Knocks on Wood and Black Cat Crossing...

The town of Lavender, Texas is buzzing with tourists, and local businesses are pulling out all the stops for the annual Pumpkin Days Festival. On the eve of opening day, Sabrina comes face-to-face with her doppelgänger, Tia Hartwell, a caricature artist at the festival. The similarities between the two women are striking, including their matching black cats.

Sabrina learns that her new twin Tia has an enemy: bad-tempered jewelry vendor Calvin Fisher. When Fisher is found slumped over dead in his pickup, Tia tops the suspect list. With the help of her feline sidekick, Sabrina must clear her new look-alike friend before she finds herself in a deadly case of double jeopardy.

It's time for the annual Pumpkin Festival Days in Lavender, Texas, and the town is hopping with tourists and vendors. Mystery writer Sabrina Tate is less than pleased with the influx of vendors staying at her aunt's establishment, the Around the World Cottages, since they've put a damper on her pumpkin pie baking aspirations. Still, they provide some amusement - except for creepy, stalkery Gabe. Though he does protect Sabrina from an even creepier guy who seems to think he knows - and hates - her. And when the even-creepier guy turns up dead, Tia, the woman he'd mistaken Sabrina for, lands at the top of the suspect list. Sabrina has developed a fondness for Tia and her son, so she decides to do her best to clear the woman's name. But the mystery isn't so easily unraveled - and why do people keep accusing Sabrina of things she knows nothing about? This will be her most challenging case yet, even with the able help of her black kitty Hitchcock, the "Bad Luck Cat".

Each installment of this series gets better, with the plots becoming more complex and the characters developing into ever-more-memorable people. Aunt Rowe in particular is a delight! It's also great that Finch throws a few pieces of cat health or training information into each book. Even better is that she clearly understands how to use Southern American English so that it rings true to a Southern ear. There's nothing worse than a non-Southern author using "y'all" incorrectly (it always, always, always refers to at least two people, even if one or more are only implied - something that I suspect is a pet peeve of the author, as well!). The great dialogue, well-rounded characters, and precisely drawn plots make this series a delight to read!
