Product Description:

Terror stalks a small Virginia town.

FBI rising star, criminal profiler Evelyn Baine, knows how to think like a serial killer. But she's never chased anyone like the Bakersville Burier, who hunts young women and displays them, half-buried, deep in the woods. As the body count climbs, Evelyn's relentless pursuit of the killer puts her career—and her life—at risk. And the evil lurking in the Burier's mind may be more than even she can unravel.

Terror is closer than she thinks…

The Bakersville Burier knows he's got an FBI profiler on his trail. He knows who she is and where to find her. And he's biding his time, because he's planned a special punishment for Evelyn. She may have tracked other killers, but he vows to make this her last chase. This time it's her turn to be hunted!

Evelyn Baine led a horrendous childhood. Her alcoholic mother often brought her male friends home, one of whom made Evelyn hide for fear of being molested. When her grandparents took her in to raise her, she finally attained a modicum of peace and safety. That is, until her best friend Cassie was abducted and never found. This incident led Evelyn to become a criminal profiler with the FBI.

Though it is hard enough to gain recognition as a woman in her profession, Evelyn has two strikes against her being of a mixed race and a newbie in her chosen field. She senses animosity among her male peers, though this does not deter her to be the best profiler ever and remove the psychos from the streets. She also resolves to delve into the now cold case of Cassie’s disappearance for closure.

The area becomes plagued by the Bakersville Burier, a sociopath who abducts married women, and after torturing and killing them, leaves them half buried in the woods with only their heads on display. Evelyn, assigned the case deals with ridicule from the local police, which makes her resolute in solving this crime.

One night Evelyn is brutally drugged, attacked and abducted. She manages to flee her kidnapper by stealing his car, but the drugs in her system cause her to crash into a tree. Rescued and hospitalized renews her commitment to catching this psycho.  Evelyn, is reprimanded by her boss to back off and let another agent deal with the assignment but she’s on a personal vendetta to apprehend him.  The murderer continues his wrath of devastation, thumbing his nose at the authorities.  Evelyn concludes that the best way to capture him is to make herself the bait.

With Hunted, Ms. Heiter’s debut novel, she demonstrates her top-notch writing skills to dig into the psyche of a serial killer while detailing the actions of FBI agents.  This thriller will keep one riveted to the gripping conclusion.
